  • NZ’s Gavin Cook wins 2008 World Cup (vid), Meadowlands - NZ and US
    Gavin Cook of New Zealand was declared the winner of the 2008 World Cup of Amateur Racing after capturing the final event of the competition on Wednesday night at the Meadowlands.
  • Horseman struck and killed by train, USTA Newsroom - US
    Ronald D. Wittenberg, 48, a former driver/trainer on the western New York circuit, was struck and killed by a train last Thursday evening (May 15) in Buffalo, N.Y.
  • Cullen’s Legacy sold, joins Small, Garrick Knight - NZ
    Exciting three-year-old Cullen’s Legacy, a placegetter in this year’s Great Northern Derby behind Fiery Falcon, has been sold to New South Wales owner Sam Trecasse for a sum believed to be well in to six figures.
  • Auckland Reactor a buzz for Parker (vid), Frank Marrion - NZ
    Auckland’s Tony and Anne Parker had bred and raced some good horses over the years such as Sharp And Telford, Stevies, Hunka Hickling and trotting mare Miss Whiplash. But Auckland Reactor has obviously been something else again, one made all the more special by the fact that he emanated from their foundation broodmare in Tudoress, who was also their first good racemare.
  • Cambridge locals eye Harness Jewels, Cambridge Raceway - NZ
    The 2008 Harness Jewels are now less than two weeks away; the cut off date for qualification for the event was last Sunday, the fields are now settled, and the draws are to be announced this Friday 23rd May.
  • Suspended Vet’s tests ruled worthless, NY Department of Agriculture - US
    The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, in coordination with the New York State Departments of Health and Education, is notifying residents in the Washington County area of invalid veterinary tests conducted by Dr. Ronald Peters of Greenwich, New York.
  • More than a trip for Peter Kleinhans, Carol Hodes - US
    It is the 21st century and Peter Kleinhans was scoping out the competition on YouTube. Kleinhans was about to place his recently acquired trotter, Enough Talk, on a flight across the Atlantic to compete in one of the world’s great trotting races, the Elitlopp on May 25, 2008 at Solvalla, the racetrack in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • Horses to Watch at the Meadowlands, Derick Giwner - US
    This list is designed to provide horses who had tough trips, traffic trouble or looked impressive in their recent start. Always consider whether each horse is at a competitive level and if their price warrants a play before wagering in their next start. Horses which were listed the previous week and did not race will remain listed for a second week.
